Lighting the candles

Hello lovely people,

I have a Dies to Die For DT card for you today and it's one I made for my nephew...I didn't put an age on the card but can you guess how old he is?!

I was feeling very guilty that I have had the MFT magical dragons in my craft room for at least a couple of months and hadn't used them so I decided to team one of the dragons up with some birthday candles for a fun design.

I used the matching dies to cut out the gorgeously cute dragon so I could have him flying in and lighting up the candles.  I was going to add a little flame but there wasn't really space.

I have a matching stamp set for the candles but decided on this occasion to just cut the candles from DP, and I've added them to the panel with foam pads before wrapping the twine around.

I couldn't resist popping those fab stitched alphabet dies in my basket last week and along with the banner alphabet dies from my previous card, I think they will be very useful; it is lovely to personalise cards and I should do it more often.

Birthdays are good for you!

Hello lovely people,

It's a packed weekend for me as Dr. Hubby and I went out with some of our neighbours last night and are off to a Halloween party tonight.  I'm excited because I have a new Vampire Fairy outfit to wear...I might post pics in a later post but prepare yourselves because it's a bit risque!

Now to some crafting, and I have to admit to a growing fondness for using large sentiments as the focal point of my cards.
This is partly because they are quicker than colouring an image, but given how much I faff around with my cards it doesn't save me as much time as you'd think!
The main reason is that I think they look really good and allow me to add lots of pretty embellies without risk of overpowering an image.
And in the case of this sentiment, it's just fun and made me smile!

Talking of adding pretty embellies I have used lots of beautiful goodies from The Ribbon Girl on this card and all the links for these are at the end of my post.

I also made my own candles again :-)

I hope you are all having fab weekends and maybe enjoying some spooky fun!

Make a wish

Hello lovely people,

*thump*
That was me coming back to Earth because I have actually been to work for the last 2 days!
I haven't quite finished my year off but thought it was a good idea to work a few days before going back properly just to get back into the swing of things.
So, I am working 2 days a week for 3 weeks before another 2 weeks off and then back to normal working - eeeek!

That is one reason I am later posting this than I intended, and the other is that I got a little distracted by the Olympics for the last couple of nights...well, it's all just too exciting!

I do have a project to share with you though, using some gorgeous goodies from The Ribbon Girl and I was in my shabby chic place again when creating this.

This started off as a totally different design but it was not going well so I scrapped it and picked out this sentiment stamp, which led me to thinking about candles and before I knew it, I had completely snatched this card from the jaws of failure - yay!

The original design had some cheesecloth which didn't make the final cut, but I added some Frantage instead...still a good shabby chic staple!

The candles are simply rolls of paper with a teeny snippet of twine inside.  This is something I have done before but more as a focal point rather than an embellishment.
I think these are so super cute!

I hope your week is going well, whatever you may be up to :-)

Make a wish

Hello lovely people,

I have been super busy lately making DT cards before I go on holiday in 6 days :-)  Obviously I can't share any of them with you yet so thought I would share this simple CAS card I made a little while back.

It's a similar design to another one I made (here) but just the one candle this time!  It's made from rolled up DP with a little twine popped inside.  The letters were cut on my Cricut and I layered a few up to add dimension.

Card recipe;
DP: Vintage Spring Basics - Maja Design
Stickers: Documented collection pack - Simple Stories

I am off work today but busy with things other than crafting!  I hope you all have a good week.

Thanks for visiting and I really appreciate any comments that you leave,

Hugs,
Kat xx

Stripy

Hello lovely people,

I have yet another busy weekend of fun as I am on a hen party at Center Parcs this weekend!  I'm sure we will all be very well behaved, no shenanigans whatsoever...ahem.

While I am away, it's time for a new challenge at Totally Gorjuss and our theme this week is...
Stripes

I have had the idea for a card with 3D candles on it in my head for some time and finally had chance to make it.  It came out pretty much how I wanted!  Can you see the stripes?!

The candles are just rolled up DP with a little bit of bakers twine stuck inside - very easy :-)  They are quite sturdy but I think it's going to need a little extra padding and postage to get to the recipient...my father-in-law...hope he likes it!

Card recipe;
DP: MME Lost & Found 3 - Oliver
Twine: Hemptique from Craft Obsessions
Sentiment: Kaisercraft

I hope you can join in our challenge and if you need any more inspiration please head over to Totally Gorjuss to see what my teamies have created :-)

Thanks for visiting,

Hugs,
Kat xx
